TBIPS is a not for profit organization incorporated in 2005 with the dual mission to 1) provide expert mental health services to populations who cannot usually afford them and 2) to train mental health professionals in the in-depth form of psychotherapy known as psychoanalysis.
TBIPS respectfully requests that you support our Building Fund for the Tampa Bay Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies, Inc (T-BIPS) Low Fee Clinic for Psychoanalysis by making a tax deductible donation.
Childhood trauma from neglect and deprivation and from physical and sexual abuse not only lead to immune compromise, chronic illnesses, and psychosomatic illnesses, but these are more often than not found in the background of many persons who later require mental health services. People from lower socioeconomic strata many times have as their only option mental health centers which often rely on newly licensed, inexperienced clinicians to provide services, as well as rely on time-limited, insurance-endorsed forms of treatment and medications which cannot sufficiently address the overwhelming nature of childhood traumas. Long-entrenched ways of experiencing the self and the self with others require protracted and in-depth treatment if the brain (neuronal connections and dendritic branching) is to be re-configured. Psychoanalysis provides protracted immersion in experience that allows a new way of being in the world.
Currently, TBIPS, through its Veterans Family Initiative, a group of volunteer clinicians, provides pro bono or low fee mental health services to families of veterans who served in the Iraqi and Afghani conflicts (the VA, while providing for veterans themselves, often does not provide for their families). We are currently in the process of expanding our services to the community via the Low Fee Clinic for Psychoanalysis. We are seeking to purchase a small office building to house the Clinic, which will be staffed by experienced, licensed clinicians who are candidates in training at TBIPS. Candidates additionally receive supervision from the most experienced of mental health professionals.
Please make your tax deductible donation to TBIPS today.
The Tampa Bay Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies, Inc (TBIPS) is a not-for-profit organization which supports many opportunities for you to make tax-deducticble donations. Your financial contributions can help low-income neighbors, and families of Afghani- and Iraqi-conflict veterans, receive much needed mental health services in the form of psychoanalytic psychotherpy and psychoanalysis from highly skilled, licensed clinicians, as well as allow for the training of an increased number of mental health professionals who can provide these skills to populations in need.
Other recipients you can earmark for your tax deductible donations include:
The Dr. Horacio and Ms. Shirley Arias Psychoanalytic Fund
Begun by Mr. Robert Silverman In memory of the beloved wife of TBIPS' founding member, faculty, and board member, Horacio Arias, MD, this fund allows for psychoanalysts in training, and volunteer faculty, to provide low fee psychoanalytic treatment to those in need of, but cannot afford, psychoanalytic services. TBIPS hopes to expand the amount of low- fee clinical services it can provide and needs your generous support to do so.
Silverman Scholarship for Supervision
Also begun by generous donor Mr. Robert Silverman, this fund helps offset the costs of supervision by experienced analysts of candidates in training who provide low fee psychoanalysis to those in need. Psychoanalytic training involves not only hundreds of hours of course work, but also supervision of clinical work, as well as personal analysis. Psychoanalytic training is an expensive endeavor, pursued because of dedication to providing the most highly skilled forms of talking therapy and for the love of the art of psychoanalysis.
Veterans Family Initiative, Inc (VFI)
Clinicians in Tampa Bay have volunteered at least one hour a week to provide low fee or pro bono services to families of veterans who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. While the Veterans Administration (VA) provides services to the vets themselves, their families, who deal with separation, loss, as well as the aftermath of their soldiers' Post Traumatic Stress, do not receive services from the V.A. VFI aids these family members by providing psychotherapy services at a reduced cost.
Tax Deductible Donations can be sent to TBIPS at 13919 Carrollwood Village Run, Tampa, FL, 33618. Click here for immediate donation
